International Day of Yoga

International Day Of Yoga

International Day of Yoga is celebrated on 21st June every year because it is the summer solstice - the longest day in the northern hemisphere and the shortest day in the southern hemisphere. This day holds immense significance in the yogic tradition as it marks the transition to Dakshinayana, an auspicious time for spiritual practices.

The idea to celebrate International Day of Yoga on 21st June was proposed by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The proposal was accepted by the United Nations, and International Day of Yoga was first celebrated in 2015.

The aim of International Day of Yoga is to raise awareness about the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga and to promote its practice worldwide. It is a day to celebrate the unity of body, mind, and soul and to promote peace, harmony, and well-being.
